Registry of Persons and Professions who support Building Designer Legislation

       The Washington Society of AIBD is pursuing establishment of the lawful recognition of all persons who practice building design as a profession. Along with working to secure, protect, and promote the profession and its right to practice in this state. We are committed to building a bridge to all other building industry related professions.

      The key points for any proposed legislation would be as follows:

  • Establishment or securing of appropriate limits/scope of work.
  • Establishment of appropriate representation at governmental level.
  • Establishment of professional recognition and credential at governmental level.
  • Establishment of appropriate governmental registration system.

      It is the Society’s intention to create an opportunity in state law that allows all individuals who currently practice building design, to continue unencumbered without any additional requirement, testing, or certification. And,

This legislation would also create the opportunity for the nationally credentialed Professional Building Designer to attain the recognition of “registered design professional” in law.

Be sure that any legislation is not intended to make building designers into architects or, eliminate architects from the right to practice in any manner. In fact, our organization is interested at looking for ways to work with other professions to give all registered design professionals of this state a better opportunity to collaborate, associate, and joint venture on projects.

In order to succeed at this endeavor takes a co-operation, we need your voice to be joined with ours in asking the state legislature to approve the legislation that will be presented to them.

Your participation in our registry will be used signify the support our profession has in the public and professions of our state. We greatly appreciate your time and interest to help us attain this needed position and stature. Your help preserve our profession and therefore the opportunity for us to effectively serve our communities and building industry around our state.
